This week, news stories are breaking across Europe again confirm that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe inquiry needs to “clean house”. The OCCRP reports that Azerbaijan money was transferred to former German parliamentarian and former PACE member Eduard Lintner. (Lintner has explained to the OCCRP that the money was for his Berlin-based Society for the Promotion of German-Azerbaijani Relations.) The news also supports allegations against Luca Volontè, an Italian parliamentarian and former PACE member accused of money laundering and bribery.
What you can do NOW is to ask the Parliamentary Assembly to establish high ethical standards for its members. The next session of the PACE opened this week, with a vote scheduled on reforms on 11 October 2017. Write to the parliamentarians of your country to ask them to come clean and help the independent investigators look into instances where there is a substantial reason to believe that bribery and corruption has taken place.
